Sharda Sinha: Folk singer Sharda Sinha died at the age of 72 at AIIMS on Tuesday night at 9:20. She was ill for several days. She was put on ventilator since last Monday night. An AIIMS official said, ‘Sharda Sinha died at 9:20 pm due to ‘refractory shock’ caused by septicemia.’

Expressing grief over the demise of Sharda Sinha, President Draupadi Murmu said, ‘The news of the demise of Dr. Sharda Sinha ji, a famous singer known as Bihar Kokila, is extremely sad. Sharda Sinha ji gained immense popularity in the music world by giving her melodious voice to Bihari folk songs in Maithili and Bhojpuri.
Today, on the day of Chhath Puja, her melodious songs must be creating a divine atmosphere of devotion in the country and abroad. She was also awarded the Padma Bhushan in the field of art in the year 2018. Her melodious singing will remain immortal. I express my deepest condolences to her family and fans.’

Folk singer Sharda Sinha’s son Anshuman Sinha wrote in one of his posts that ‘all your prayers and love will always be with mother. Chhathi Maiya has called mother to her side. Mother is no longer amongst us in physical form.’ Earlier, on Monday night, he had said in a video message that this time his mother is in a lot of trouble. She is on ventilator support. She needs prayers.

Some of Sinha’s popular songs are ‘Chhathi Maiya Aai Na Duariya‘, ‘Kartik Mas Ijoriya’, ‘Dwaar Chekai’, ‘Patna Se’, and ‘Koyal Bin’. Apart from this, Sinha has also sung in Bollywood films. These include songs like ‘Taar Bijli’ from ‘Gangs of Wasseypur-2’, ‘Baabul’ from ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ and ‘Kahe To Se Sajna’ from ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’.
Earlier, AIIMS had said in a post on ‘X’ that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is constantly monitoring Sinha’s condition and has prayed for her speedy recovery. Sharda Sinha sang folk songs in Bhojpuri, Maithili and Magahi languages and was also awarded Padma Bhushan. Sinha had multiple myeloma (a type of blood cancer) and was put on ventilator after health complications arose.
